Tornado Child: A Kwame Dawes Poem

Here’s another animated poem. This one is by Kwame Dawes who grew up in Jamaica and now lives in South Carolina. I like the way the poet is unafraid to show pleasure in the language of the poem. This seems to be a happy poet.

    • Well, I cannot fully explain the poem, but I can try. I see the poem as an expression of the power of life and nature from a poet who might have actually been born in an area where tornadoes are frequent. The poet sees the strength and wild nature of the tornado in himself. He tries to convey the feeling of vigorous life he has and compares it to that of the tornado he was born into.

      I hope this explanation helps.
