Storybook: There’s a Moose Loose in the Caboose

By RG Johnson

THERE’S A MOOSE LOOSE IN THE CABOOSE
ON A TRAIN THAT IS FILLED WITH PRUNE JUICE

IN A VOICE OF DESPAIR “HOW’D A MOOSE GET IN THERE?”
SAID THE CONDUCTOR WHOSE NAME TAG READ BRUCE

THERE’S A MOOSE LOOSE IN THE CABOOSE
AS THE TRAIN ROLLS ALONG THROUGH THE SPRUCE

THE CONDUCTOR DID SHOUT “I CAN’T GET THE MOOSE OUT”
GIVING UP HE CRIED “OH WHAT’S THE USE?”

THERE’S A MOOSE LOOSE IN THE CABOOSE
DRINKING GALLONS AND GALLONS OF JUICE

THE CONDUCTOR WAS ILL AS THE MOOSE DRANK ITS FILL
FOR HE KNEW WELL WHAT THAT MIGHT INDUCE

NOW THERE’S A “LOOSE” MOOSE IN THE CABOOSE
AND I GATHER IT’S RATHER PROFUSE

THE CONDUCTOR AGHAST, KNEW HE HAD TO ACT FAST
OR HIS NECK WOULD SURE BE IN A NOOSE

IT DIDN’T TAKE LONG TO DEDUCE WHAT A THOUSAND POUND MOOSE COULD PRODUCE
SO THEY UNHITCHED THE CAR – SENT THE LOOSE MOOSE AFAR

IT WAS BEST IF THEY JUST CALLED A TRUCE
