Step
1: Story Submission Guidelines
Read
these instructions, then go to Step 2 at the bottom of this
page.
Step 1: How To Submit Your Book or Story
Here's where we try to help you make the best possible submission.
Follow these guidelines to increase the chances of getting
your book published. The reason we make all these demands
is that it's really, really hard to go through all the submissions
if they are all formatted differently.
All works must be completely finished manuscripts. Do a
very careful check of your spelling and grammar.
Do not send email inquiries about the status of your submission.
We will not respond. We will only contact you if your work
is published on the site.
SUBMITTING BY EMAIL:
Email is the only way to submit stories and art. If your
story is illustrated, you must scan the artwork and send
it via email.
Send a Microsoft Word document with all the chapters of
your book in one document. Attach your Word file and graphics
files to the email message and enter "Ebook Submission"
in the subject line of the email message. That's the only
thing your subject line should say. If you do not use this
subject line, your work will not get published.
Your
email must include a short single paragraph synopsis of
your story.
Format illustrations as jpeg graphic files. These have a
.jpg extension on the file name. You can attach graphic
files to email.
MANUSCRIPT FORMATTING REQUIREMENTS:
-
All manuscripts must be in English.
-
Text should be single spaced with no extra return between
paragraphs. Wrap paragraph text (no hard returns at the
end of lines).
-
Use 12 pt Times New Roman.
-
Indent paragraphs using tabs, not the space bar.
-
Place a page break at end of every chapter.
-
Do not use footers or headers in your document!
-
No smart (curly) quotes or em dashes. Use straight quotes
and double hyphens.
-
No underlining.
-
Use American convention of single and double quotes.
-
Use double returns and a series of * symbols to signify
scene breaks.
-
For chapter headings use the word "Chapter"
and then a number (i.e. "Chapter 1"). You can
also use text titles for your chapters.
-
End the manuscript with "The End" or "End."
-
Chapters should all be compiled in one document, not one
document per chapter.
Work should be saved in either:
-
Microsoft Word. This is the preferred format for submissions.
-
RTF (Rich Text Format). RTF must have the ".rtf"
extension.
You
may send work compressed in WINZIP format if necessary.
Email submissions to: info@candlelightstories.com
Remember, we do not send you updates on the status of your
submission.
We look forward to reading your book.
