  1. How do the three brothers find out about the Water of Life?'
    (They go to the palace garden in sadness over the imminent death of their father and meet an old man who tells them about the magical water's existence.)
  2. Does the king want the three brothers to go in search of the Water of Life?
    (No. He is very worried and would rather die than risk his sons' lives for himself. He only relents after they beg him to let them go.)
  3. Why are the two older brothers imprisoned by the magic dwarf?
    (When he inquires about where they are heading they are rude and do not tell him.)
  4. How does the dwarf imprison the two older brothers?
    (When they ride their horses into a narrow ravine he makes the two mountains move closer together to trap the brothers.)
  5. Why doesn't the dwarf imprison the youngest brother?
    (When the dwarf asks where he is heading the youngest son gives him an honest answer and tells him about the Water of Life.)
  6. Where does the dwarf say the youngest brother can find the Water of Life?
    (In a fountain in the courtyard of an enchanted castle.)
  7. What does the dwarf give the youngest brother?
    (A wand and two loaves of bread.)
  8. What does the princess in the castle tell the youngest brother?
    (She tells him he has delivered her. She also tells him that if he returns to her in one year, they shall be married and he shall have her kingdom.)
  9. Does the youngest brother find the Water of Life?
    (Yes, he finds the fountain and fills a cup with the Water of Life.)
