WHAT HAPPENS IN THE STORY
A young man inherits his father's cat and wonders what he
can possibly do with a cat. The cat tells him not to worry
and to do exactly as he says. The cat then captures some
rabbits and some partridges which he gives as gifts to the
King. The cat makes up a story about how his master is a
duke and has sent these gifts for the King.
The
King is very pleased. One day, when the cat knows the King
will be out in his carriage with his beautiful daughter,
he runs home to tell his master to go for a swim in the
river. The clever cat hides his master's clothes and, as
the King's carriage passes by, starts to scream for help,
shouting that his master's clothes have been stolen by thieves.
The King gives the cat's master some very fine clothes and
lets him ride to the castle in his carriage.
Puss runs ahead and tells peasants working in the fields
to pretend that they are calling out for the noble duke
in the carriage.
When the King hears the peasants shouting the Duke's name,
he is convinced that the cat's master is indeed a fine young
nobleman.
The cat runs on and finds a great castle occupied by a giant
ogre. The ogre frightens the cat by changing into a lion.
The cat outsmarts the ogre and kills him.
As the carriage passes the castle, the cat comes out and
invites the King to enter the castle of the young duke.
The King is very impressed and goes in with his daughter.
They have a great feast and the King asks the young man
if he wants to marry his daughter.
The cat's master marries the princess and the cat becomes
a great lord.
