I completely agree with the Editor. I'd like also to make a comparison. If one of my neighbours dies I will never let my children go outside and play games too loud or organize a barbecue in my garden. The respect, and comprehension of the pain of others should be our natural behaviour. To dock the ship there and rest is simply a lack of any humanity and consideration to all the Haitian people. All the rest are pretexts.

I think all of the points made by the CEO of Royal Caribbean are ridiculous and simply defy logic. You don't land cruise passengers on a stricken nation where 200,000 people are dead and a million injured, with cities wiped out completely. You empty your ships of passengers and you place all available vessels completely in the service of aid delivery and rescue. The CEO's idiotic points about keeping a couple hundred people employed in north Haiti don't amount to anything at all. He could certainly keep them on his payroll while NOT dropping passengers off for fun on the beaches.

This company and its CEO are completely without any sense of the proportion of this horrific event. Do you think this company would be landing passengers on the Jersey shore for fun on the boardwalk if New York City had been wiped out by an earthquake? Not a chance.

This company needs to place all of its vessels in the Caribbean into the service of ferrying the injured, delivering supplies, and bringing in doctors. Period. Nothing else counts for a nickle.

The company could have donated without docking on top of dead people for fun on the beach. Once they docked the ship, everything else became a secondary justification.

The thing isn't completely kosher, I agree, but RC donated all proceeds from the day at Labadee to earthquake relief -- about $26,000. I've also heard reports that they plan to donate $1 million total.
